How can we help you and your horse?

The equine practice is run from a separate site in Retford, in the same building as our pharmacy business Veterinary Drugs To Go. Portland House Equine are delighted to welcome new clients. Please ring us for a chat, and to register your horses and ponies. Please note that we expect new clients to pay in full at the time of the first visit. 

​The Equine side of the group practice is run by Lindsay Harrison BVMS MRCVS, assisted by Oana Radu DVM MSc MRCVS. Lindsay and Oana are both experienced horse vets who enjoy all aspects of equine work, whilst maintaining and furthering their own particular interests in the field. We aim to provide an excellent standard of first and second opinion equine work, combined with top quality client care and communication. We operate a purely ambulatory service meaning that we can come to your yard and perform high quality diagnostic work. All of our equipment is portable and we don't require a mains power supply. We have a state of the art wireless digital x-ray system which can be used almost anywhere.

We cover all aspects of standard equine veterinary practice, including:

Visits

You can book a visit for any time in working hours, to suit your availability. However if you require routine work and are fairly flexible you can choose to book a Zone Visit at a reduced price.

Zone Visit Scheme:

Portland House Equine would like to offer you the chance to save money and is pleased to offer our clients ‘zone’ visits for a nominal fee. Zone visits allow us to concentrate on one area on a certain day reducing the financial, environmental and time costs and allowing us to serve you more efficiently. Certain conditions apply to zone visits and we reserve the right to modify the scheme at any time.

The rules:

  1. Zone visits are for routine work only eg. vaccinations, teeth, blood tests, passports, microchipping, medication reviews and examinations for minor ailments. Zone visits are not suitable for lameness work-ups, radiography, endoscopy, scanning, reproductive work, castrations, euthanasia, surgical procedures or vettings.
  2. Zone visits must be pre-booked by the end of the day before the visit (Friday for Monday visits).
  3. It will not be possible to choose a precise time, however, you may specify one of three time slots. These are 9-11am, 11-1pm and 2-4pm.
  4. It will not be possible to specify which vet you prefer.
  5. Unless in pre-agreed circumstances zone visits will not be available to clients with outstanding accounts.
  6. In order to run the scheme efficiently, we do require that you have your horse or pony in and ready for us between the hours of your time slot.
